Full Text Search

From Contensive Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

The Text Search object creates a full text search feature on your site. It uses the Contensive Content Spider Service, also running on the server, to gather searchable text from each page.

When you install it on your site, it uses the Spider Add-on to begin fetching and indexing all the pages on your site, one per minute. They are updated daily, and right after they are edited.

Adding Full Text Search

To add the Text search to your site, create a content page and login as an administrator. Click on EDIT and then click on the paper/pencil icon to open the page record. Put your cursor in the Copy block and click TEXT SEARCH2 on the ADD-ON Menu.

Click OK to save changes. When the page is displayed, the icon you added will display a text search box and a search button. Add any custom text search form by simply submitting the form input 'textsearchwordlist' to the page with this add-on.

Click on ADVANCED on the edit menu. Click the WRENCH on the TEXT SEARCH2 menu. Here you will specify the page you want search results displayed on (make sure to put the TEXT SEARCH2 add-on on that page as well). You will also specify what you want included in search results, such as images, sample text, etc. click UPDATE when you are done to save changes.

Configuring the Content Spider

For the Content Spider to begin gathering text, you may have to start the Content Spider Service. Contact your server admin to make sure the Content Spider Service has been started. For more information on the SPIDER add-on, read below.

The spider add-on runs in the background and collects information about your site to use in the text search and for diagnostics.

Installation

The spider is installed automatically when you add any add-on that uses it. To install it by itself, from ADMIN HOME, click on MANAGE ADD-ONS and then ADD-ON MANAGER. Scroll down to SPIDER on the right side of your screen, check the INSTALL box and click OK to install the Spider.

Setup

The only setting necessary to make the spider run is to enable it. To do this, login as an administrator, click the ADMIN HOME, then MANAGE ADD-ONS, SPIDER and finally SPIDER SETTINGS. When the record opens, click ENABLED. Click OK to save the settings change. There are several other options to control the spider process available in the options tab of the Spider Settings page, each is documented on the settings page.

Adding PDF Search Capability

To search PDFs you must install Acrobat Pro on the webserver. When installed, open dcomcnfg and make sure your process can launch the AcroExch.PDBookmark DCOM.

Blocking Sections from the Search

To block sections from the search, login as an ADMIN and go to the search results page. Click on ADVANCED EDIT. At the bottom of the screen you will see a green box that says "Sections to Block from this search form" with a list of all site sections. Click the box next to any section you want blocked from search results and click APPLY.
